Pallet Wall

I was reluctant to tackle this project because I new it would be time consuming but I’m glad I did it.

  1. First I had to collect about 25 old weather pallets.  They needed to look old but not rotten.
  2. Then i needed to dismantle the pallets.  All the pallets I found used twisted nails that do not pull out easily.  I ended up using my sawzall with a metal cutting blade to cut the nails off between the boards.
  3. Sanding.  Used a belt sander to take the roughness off the boards and to show the wood grain.
  4. Cut to width.  All the boards needed to be cut straight and to the same width.  I ended up having three different widths. 3″, 3.5″ and 5″.
  5. Find the studs.  Mark out all the studs on the wall.
  6. Nail them to the wall.  I used a Brad Nailer with a compressor.  This way you don’t see the nails. Cut the boards to length as you see fit.  I tried keep alike boards away from each other and the effect worked well.
